About the Author

The author was born in South Africa and raised during the struggle against apartheid and Nelson Mandela's twenty-seven years in prison. He went to Grey College, Bloemfontein before mandatory military service in the 1970s, including service on the country’s borders against “terrorists” (the labels used by the governments of South Africa and the United States) infiltrating the country during the height of the Cold War and the ANC’s struggle for freedom.

With degrees in history (B.A.) and theology (B.Th.) and three law degrees (LL.B., LL.M., & J.D.), the author was admitted as an advocate (barrister) in South Africa and has practiced as a defense lawyer in the United States for over thirty years. He loves a good book and a glass of wine, the crash of surf on a deserted beach, playing any sport with a bat and a ball, has run ultra-marathons, marathons and triathlons, and lives with his wife and family in the United States.
